Mattex Announces 2022 Honoring the Blue Winner

October 24, 2022 | Community Involvement, Press Releases The Mattex team is thrilled to announce that Brandy Smith of the Parkland College Police Department has been chosen as the 2022 “Honoring The Blue” winner! Brandy has been in the police force for 15 years, including holding the DARE officer position at the Arthur Police Department. Currently, she is a Field Training Officer at the Parkland College Police Department, as well as their Union President. At Parkland PD, she is also involved in the Bandana Project which is an organization that brings awareness to mental health issues and suicide prevention. Brandy also has the very important job of being a mom to two children with the youngest about to enter high school. In her community, she promotes numerous animal shelters, volunteers with her children’s school activities, and has helped gather and deliver donations to Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas back in 2017. On top of all of this, she is also pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Eastern Illinois University. Brandy was nominated by three different individuals for her hard work and dedication to her family and community. When asked to describe Brandy, one individual said, “She has worked her tail off as both a mother and officer to get where she is now and has put others ahead of herself on numerous occasions.” Others described her as having “a lot of compassion for people she works with and the people she serves” and a “heart of gold”.
